Italy experiences tropical-like cyclones that are extremely rare due to its dry nature.

Only one hundred tropical-like cyclones have been documented between 1948-2014. However, this rare occurrence does not mean other high wind velocity events do not occur. Weather systems producing hurricane force winds and heavy rainfall have caused damage to some towns in the country. In 2011, 75-90 mph winds were recorded in Trieste, a seaport city in northeastern Italy and in November of last year, high winds and heavy rains had much of the nation in high alert. While Italy does not have to worry annually about hurricanes, the people of this country do have their hands full. These weather systems bring rain and wind that does not let up for days and causes much damage by toppled trees and heavy flooding.

great writing about Italy's extreme weather. It looks like they are pretty lucky if the cyclones are very rare. I like that you added so much information, with extra tabs at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteAll good to know, the rainy season as it is in November and the Bora (you know a wind is strong when they name it) blows through Trieste? The format and coloration of your blog along with the succinct information is easily readable. Haiti suffers much from tropical cyclones, storms, rain and flooding.
